Impressions

In 1971 I began capturing complicated states of being in comprehensive journals, utilizing a combination of text, graphics, sound and music. These journals collected thoughts about compositions and performance works, and about instrument design and complex sonic relationships. They further tracked observations about myself, other beings, and the world in which I was living.

Elaborate plans were designed for maneuvering in the intricate web of connections and interrelated thoughts, with resources for spinning off new ideas and for remembering old impressions. I wondered how this would be brought together into a unified approach to understanding myself and the world as I perceive it, and I conjectured about devising more effective resources that could be used to explore, develop and express.

I knew, though I not always knew how or why, that there was a way of being that would allow me to understand these things on an entirely new level, and that resources could be developed that would tremendously facilitate the process.

All of these examples signify attempts to reconcile deep feelings and fantasies with the world as it appears on the surface, taking advantage of available technological resources to express and to communicate my observations.
