Community Service Projects
Craig Harris firmly holds to the principle that healthy and successful communities require ongoing engagement in community service from those living and working in the community. With that in mind, Harris has been involved in a variety of community projects, including serving on various Boards, volunteering on community committees, and supporting local initiatives. The following selections of community projects illustrate some of these activities:
Marcy Open School
Harris volunteered at Marcy Open School in Southeast Minneapolis for several years. Activities included volunteering classrooms, serving on the school's site leadership team, and serving on the Marcy Arts Partnership. |
Marcy Arts Partnership
During his time volunteering at Marcy Open School Harris worked on the steering committee for the Marcy Arts Partnership, a long term initiative to integrate the arts into the curriculum of this K-8 public school. In addition to raising substantial funds to support arts integration initiatives, this group was responsible for allocating funds towards artists and arts organizations to work in the school. |
Great River School
Harris served as President of the Great River School Board of Directors at a time of intense organizational development. This Montessori-based charter school was in startup mode, and was experiencing significant organizational and financial challenges. During his tenure on the Board of Directors Harris worked with other Board members to move the organization from a period of financial distress and turbulence into a position of financial strength and organizational stability. |

Minneapolis Arts and Culture Plan
Craig Harris holds the belief that the long term success of the arts in a community is directly related to the degree of integration that takes place at all levels of community development. His service on the Advisory Committee for the Minneapolis Plan for Arts and Culture was based on this principle. |
